In the geosciences we are continually moving forward but just when we get used to the pace a major advancement becomes mainstream. The idea that a source bed can be a producing reservoir has caused a major advancement in technology but what is next: nanotechnology for increased recovery, logs that predict pore size distributions, reservoir productivity maps from seismic or all of these and more.
To predict these trends we are immediately prompted to identify the research challenges, emphasize the much-needed interdisciplinary collaboration, recognize the integration of the sciences and advance our scientific knowledge. A careful glance at each of these issues suggests that they all have futuristic overtones and can be addressed by having a clear vision. Consequently, we have chosen that as the theme of the 2012 geoconvention - ‘VISION’.
GeoConvention 2012: Vision will thus be a forum to address the sharing and advancing of knowledge forward, allowing the exchange of ideas that could guide research in different areas of geosciences, and addressing futuristic issues and so that our VISION is articulated to the younger generation of geoscientists.
On behalf of the 2012 organizing committee, which comprises members of the CSEG, CSPG and CWLS, we proudly welcome you to GeoConvention 2012: Vision, which will take place May 14th to 17th at the TELUS Convention Centre, with a Core Conference May 17th and 18th at the ERCB Core Research Centre in Calgary.
We are planning a grand show that will be remembered for years to come. This will include a
technical program that is strong on content and integration and which addresses a variety of topics, a vibrant core conference where the delegates can learn about the rock properties from the presenters and touch the rocks themselves, a series of special events starting with the Icebreaker on Monday, and culminating, after a week of educational and entertaining networking events, with the Core Meltdown on Friday.
GeoConvention 2012: Vision will offer you a meeting ground to maximize your opportunities and foster a sense of community amongst yourselves. It will give you a chance to keep up-to-date with the technical advancements, the commercial software products available, and above all to experience the vitality in our industry. Meeting with colleagues in both formal and informal settings, exchanging views and experiences usually leads to long-term friendships and building of valuable professional networks. Your attendance will allow you to do all this.
We extend a warm welcome to you all to mark these dates on your calendar and come participate in the convention, share your VISION and ENJOY!
